The Tigers participated in the national camp under the supervision of fitness and conditioning coach Mario Villavarayan at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Wednesday ahead of the tri-nation series comprising Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
A total of 27 cricketers among the 32-member preliminary squad underwent the “beep test”. ODI captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza and opener Tamim Iqbal were absent due to personal reason.
According to source, youngster Nazmul Hossain Shanto achieved the highest rating point of 12.10 in the beep test while wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim finished second.
The cricketers will undergo gym and bowling session Thursday in the second day of the camp.
Meanwhile, all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz informed that he will try to improve his batting for the nation team. Miraz has scored 281 runs in 20 Test innings and 86 in fours ODIs so far.
“I have to bat in the late order for the national team. But I am happy. If I get the chance to bat a bit earlier then I will try to improve my batting. Maybe I am not doing well with the bat but I will definitely try to perform better in future. Now I am contributing with the ball for my team, and I am happy,” said Miraz to the media after training.
“We have plenty of series this year. We have to remain physically fit all through the year as we have busy schedule ahead. Best performance comes out from the fittest players in the team. I am hopeful our team will perform well as a team,” he added.
A total of 32 cricketers have been called up to the camp with an eye on the Tigers’ upcoming home and away series. One of the most notable omissions was stumper-batsman Nurul Hasan. The youngster was a regular choice for the national team this year as a back-up keeper. But surprisingly, he was omitted from the camp.
However, chief national selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu informed that Sohan is still in contention.
“We have analysed Sohan’s performance in the recently concluded NCL. We have a lot of options in the squad. We can say he is still in contention. There are lots of games in the domestic circuit. If Sohan can perform consistently there then he will return again,” Minhajul said.
