Tushar joins 10,000 club as first Bangladeshi

Prime Bank South Zone batsman Tushar Imran emerged as the first Bangladesh batsman to reach 10,000 first-class runs. The former national cricketer was 35 away from the milestone when he went out to bat for South Zone against Walton Central Zone at BKSP in the Bangladesh Cricket League yesterday. At stumps, the right-handed batsman was unbeaten on 40. Tushar reached the mark in 260 first-class innings at an average of 42.04. The game was delayed by fog and wet pitch and saw only 33 overs of play. South Zone were asked to bat first and were in early trouble following the loss of Soumya Sarkar for 10 and Mehedi Hasan for one. With the side reeling on 22 for the loss of two wickets, opener Shahriar Nafees and Tushar took charge. The duo posted unbroken 86 runs for the third wicket, propelling South Zone to 108 without further loss of wickets. Shahriar was unbeaten on 53 with 10 boundaries and one over boundary. Central Zone’s Abu Haider and Ebadat Hossain picked up a wicket each.

Meanwhile in the other game, Islami Bank East Zone’s Abu Jayed bagged five wickets to get the side off to a strong start against BCB North Zone at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Jayed was key behind North Zone’s batting debacle as they got restricted for just 187 in the first innings. Farhad Hossain’s 40 was the best in the North Zone innings. Jayed picked up five scalps in 17 overs conceding 71 runs to register his 11th five-wicket haul in the format. The effort was however, not complemented by the East Zone batsmen as they lost four wickets with just 24 on the board. North Zone’s Shafiul Islam and Farhad Reza picked up two wickets each to keep the game in the balance. At stumps, East Zone trail by 163 runs in the first innings with six wickets in hand.
