Thisara: Hathurusingha can't do miracles
Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera admitted that their batting performance was poor and informed that their head coach Chandika Hathurusingha needs more time to produce positive results. Host Bangladesh produced yet another clinical performance in their second ODI of the tri-nation series against Sri Lanka as they also won convincingly against Zimbabwe Monday. The Tigers scored 320 runs batting first and later bowled out Sri Lanka for just 157. “It can happen in cricket. When we look at the last match against Zimbabwe, we have a lot of positives to take. But in this match, we couldn’t execute our batting plans. This is definitely a 300-run wicket. I think our batting didn’t click,” Thisara said during the post-match press conference at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Friday. Sri Lanka have lost both their matches under new coach Hathurusingha. Thisara said Hathurusingha requires time to settle down and make a positive impact. “I think it is plus point as we have Hathurusingha as head coach. He is one of the best coaches in the world. I worked with him in the (Sri Lanka) A team in 2011-12. He needs time. No one can do miracles. I think it is time to step up with this new coach,” said Thisara. “Angelo [Mathews] is a key player in our batting unit. I don’t know what happened with him around next few matches. No idea about that. It is really a big blow,” he added. Sri Lanka’s bowling was also not upto the mark as they conceded plenty of runs in both the matches. But Thisara vowed to bounce back in the upcoming matches. “I have said these things happen in cricket. No one can guarantee we can do this, and we can do this. We came back strong after Shakib [al Hasan] and Tamim [Iqbal] batted really well. It looked like a 350-score but it came down to 320. Our bowling unit is also doing well in the first 10 overs. But we didn’t execute our plans. I hope we can come back strongly in the next match,” he explained. Sri Lanka bowlers bowled plenty of short balls against Bangladesh and Thisara informed it was part of their game-plan. “We always analyse batsmen’s footage. We noticed something about Bangladesh’s batting unit. They don’t expect bouncers so we planned to bowl bouncers,” he concluded.
