Ziaur guides Sheikh Jamal to second spot

Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club moved to second position in the points table after defeating Prime Back Cricket Club to register the third win of the season in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2017-18 Monday. In the other two games of the day, Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited picked up their second consecutive win beating Agrani Bank Cricket Club while Shinepukur Cricket Club won against Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity. Shinepukur’s overseas cricketer Uday Kaul’s century was the major highlight of the day.Mohammedan v Agrani Bank A joint effort by the bowlers inspired Mohammedan to their second win of the season as they defeated Agrani Bank by 159 runs at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. Asked to bat first, Mohammedan, riding on Irfan Sukkur’s 83-ball 92 and Raqibul Hasan’s 77, posted 335 on the board losing seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Jony Talukdar and Bipul Sharma added 43 and 41 respectively to the total. Defending the total, Agrani Bank managed only 176 before losing all of their wickets in 37.4 overs. Subashish Roy, Qazi Onik, Enamul Haque and Bipul bagged two wickets apiece for Mohammedan. Dhiman Ghosh scored 40, the highest of Agrani Bank’s innings. Agrani Bank saw one of their players, Soumya Sarkar, travel to Dhaka overnight from Sylhet following the national team’s humiliating T20I series defeat against Sri Lanka. The left-handed batsman had zero impact with the bat, getting dismissed for a two-ball duck.Sheikh Jamal v Prime BankZiaur Rahman’s half-century steered Sheikh Jamal to a five-wicket win against Prime Bank in Fatullah’s Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium. Batting first, Prime Bank scored 227 for the loss of all of their wickets in their stipulated 50 overs. Mehedi Maruf topped the Prime Bank innings with 41 as Robiul Haque took three wickets for Sheikh Jamal. Chasing the target, Sheikh Jamal reached the shore in 44.4 overs. Ziaur boosted the chase with a 76-ball 67 with eight boundaries and a six. Monir Hossain bagged two scalps for Prime Bank, who have only one win after four matches so far.Shinepukur v KhelagharInspired by Uday Kaul’s hundred and a group effort by the bowlers, Shinepukur registered an 88-run victory over Khelaghar at BKSP. Riding on Kaul’s 137, Shinepukur, invited to take first guard, registered 294 for the cost of seven wickets in their 50 overs. Kaul in his 136-ball knock hammered a dozen fours and three over boundaries. Mohammad Saddam and Moinul Islam bagged two wickets each for Khelaghar. In pursuit of the target, Khelaghar scored 206 losing all of their wickets in 45.4 overs. Rafsan al Mahmud scored 62 while Amit Majumder added 43 to the tally.
