Taskin hoping to bounce back soon
Bangladesh right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed made a flying start to his international career with a five-for in the ODI home series against India in 2015. Since then, the 22-year old has been a regular fixture in the Tigers pace attack. However, Bangladesh faced a dilemma with regards to bowling in the year 2017, especially the pacers who had failed miserably despite playing most of the matches in pace-friendly conditions like New Zealand, England and South Africa. This saw the team management carry out a major overhaul. Following Bangladesh’s disastrous tour of South Africa in September-October last year, Taskin was one of those who got axed from the national fold for below-par performance. With that said, Bangladesh could hardly make a recovery from the bowling dilemma as they struggled at home, in spite of bringing in a mix of youth and experience in the attack. Following the Tigers’ ordinary performance in the home series’ between January to February where the side played all three formats of the game, the BCB took immediate measures to involve the top 14 pacers of the country. The board started a special camp from Friday at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka under the supervision of pace bowling coach Courtney Walsh. Taskin following a two and a half hour long session at the home of cricket Saturday said, “It was important for me to execute the plans capitalising on my experience of playing for the national side for four years. It is never possible to get success if you are not able to execute the plan. In this camp I am working on my accuracy and variation.”

Taskin during the South Africa tour bagged only two wickets in three ODIs and remained wicket-less in the two T20Is and the lone Test match against the host nation. Before that, the right-arm pacer also failed to impress in the 2017 Champions Trophy, picking just two wickets in as many games. “Speed is my strength, and a bit of variation. I proved myself before the last two series (against South Africa and the Champions Trophy) where I under-performed. I might have problems with my accuracy and fitness. I am now working on the lackings and hope to bounce back in the coming days,” Taskin said to the media. While talking about the benefits the Bangladesh pacers will get from the camp under Walsh, Taskin said, “Walsh is monitoring every delivery and watching the accuracy. This camp is mainly working on the accuracy of the bowlers. The board has taken a very good initiative arranging this camp for the pacers. I hope that this camp will help us in the upcoming international matches.” Though the national coaching staffs were blamed for the poor performances by the bowlers, Taskin said the failures instead should be put on the players, and not the coaches. “The problem is with skill of our bowlers. It will not be right to blame the coaches for our failures. The coaches are doing their job by making plans and advising us. It is us who have to do things right and work harder,” said Taskin.
