
Abahani Limited tasted their first defeat in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2017-18 season after six consecutive wins. The Sky Blues suffered a dramatic nine-run loss at the hands of Prime Bank Cricket Club at BKSP.
Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club are second with nine points following an exciting tie with Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited in Fatullah’s Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.
In the other game of the day in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited beat Gazi Group Cricketers by a convincing margin of 95 runs to rise to fourth position in the points table.
Abahani v Prime Bank
Batting first, Prime Bank posted 246 losing all of their wickets in 49.2 overs, middle-order batsman Al Amin top-scoring for his side with 84 off 98 balls, featuring seven fours and a six.
He was ably supported by wicketkeeper-batsman Zakir Hasan, who made a 81-ball 62.
Abahani’s Mashrafe bin Mortaza bagged four wickets.
In reply, Abahani were restricted to 237 for the loss of nine wickets in their stipulated 50 overs, opener Saif Hasan scoring the highest 75, his 124-ball knock composed with five boundaries and an over boundary.
Abahani skipper Nasir Hossain scored an 88-ball 65.
Prime Bank’s Shariful Islam, who was later adjudged man of the match, picked up four wickets.
Despite the defeat however, Abahani are still at the summit with 12 points from seven games.
Mohammedan v Doleshwar
Taking first guard, Mohammedan registered 286 before losing all of their wickets with one ball remaining.
Mohammedan captain Shamsur Rahman made a 93-ball 75, including three fours and as many sixers.
Lower-order batsman Raqibul Hasan blasted a 60-ball 72.
Doleshwar seamer Farhad Reza took three wickets.
In pursuit of the target, Doleshwar made exactly 286, losing nine wickets in their allotted 50 overs.
Opener Liton Das top-scored with a majestic 122-ball 129, studded with eight boundaries and a couple of sixes.
Mohammedan’s man of the match Mohammad Azim picked up a whopping six wickets.
Sk Jamal v Gazi Group
Batting first, the Dhanmondi based outfit scored 265/8 in 50 overs, player of the match Saykat Ali scoring the highest 115 off 118 deliveries with half a dozen fours and five sixes.
Gazi Group were skittled out for 170 in 42.4 overs, Indian Gurkeerat Singh’s 77-ball 67, including seven boundaries, proving to be too little, too late.
