BCB to finalise new head coach within a month
The BCB’s cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan admitted that finding a new head coach for Bangladesh is seeming to be a difficult task as most of the high-profile coaches are engaged and only interested to work with franchise-based teams. Akram informed that BCB is working on finding the next Tigers coach and that the process might be completed within this month. “BCB president [Nazmul Hasan] and CEO [Nizamuddin Chowdhury] are working on appointing the new coach. It is tough to find a coach immediately as you know most of the experienced coaches are now involved with franchise-based teams. So big names are tough to get at the moment. We are looking for an experienced coach who is doing coaching in state or county level, or an assistant coach working for a Test-playing nation. So basically we are trying to find a new coach soon. Probably within 10-15 days we can confirm the coach,” Akram said to the media Monday. Akram also stated that BCB is searching for coaches for several posts, like the academy and U-19 level. After hiring the coach for the national team, BCB will soon appoint the respective coaches for these positions as well. “In fact we are seeking coaches for quite a few positions. Obviously we want a coach for the national team. Besides that, we are searching for coaches for the academy and U-19 level. But coach for the national team is our topmost priority at the moment,” he said.

“We have tried with local coaches a few times in the past. And as for Aminul Islam Bulbul, if he shows his interest then we will definitely think about him,” he added. Earlier, BCB boss Nazmul informed that the BCB is expecting to recruit the new national side coach in the first week of April. “We will finalise the coach’s recruitment process for the national team after the Nidahas T20I tri-nation series. We will take interview of two-three candidates soon. We are hoping to finalise the decision within this month. And hopefully, the new coach will take charge from the beginning of April,” said Nazmul to the media in Colombo Sunday. Bangladesh coach’s post has been vacant ever since Chandika Hathurusingha resigned in November last year. Without a coach, Bangladesh lost the final of the ODI tri-series and two-match Test and T20I series’, all at home against Sri Lanka. Tigers’ pace bowling coach Courtney Walsh was appointed as the interim coach for the Nidahas series.
