11th ULAB Fair Play Cup Cricket begins Thursday

The 11th ULAB Fair Play Cup Cricket Tournament gets underway Thursday, host University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh announced this at a press conference in its campus in Dhanmondi Wednesday. The tournament has already gained widespread popularity as the only cricket tournament for private universities in Bangladesh. The BCB provides technical support each year to the organisers for the smooth and fair execution of the tournament. The objective of the ULAB Fair Play Cup is to establish good relations among private universities and to create an atmosphere of enjoyment and fairness in competition. A total of 20 T20 matches will be held in the tournament. After 12 matches, the best eight teams will fight it out in the Super Eight round for places in the semi-finals. The two semi-final winners will play for the trophy in the grand finale on March 29. This year, the champion will receive Tk 50,000 and earn the opportunity to participate in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Final Tournament. A total of 12 private universities – North South University, BRAC University, Southeast University, Daffodil International University, Prime University, Green University of Bangladesh, European University of Bangladesh, Independent University, Bangladesh, Stamford University Bangladesh, Bangladesh University, Uttara University and host ULAB – will participate in the tournament.

The gold sponsor of the tournament is Gazi Group. Badrul Alam Khan, director, Gazi Group, professor Imran Rahman, special advisor to the ULAB board of trustees, Taufiq Aziz, advisor of ULAB field sports club and Anjum Ahmed Jassy, vice captain of the ULAB cricket team spoke in the presser. Badrul in his speech said, “I firmly believe that one day the World Cup will take place on Bangladesh soil.” He requested ULAB to continue such Fair Play tournaments and assured that Gazi Group will cooperate with ULAB in the upcoming days for such arrangements. Professor Imran expressed his gratitude towards Gazi Group for sponsoring the event. He hoped for the presence of journalists in the tournament and thanked the media representatives for attending the presser.
