BCB regrets unsavoury incidents
The Bangladesh Cricket Board regretted the unpleasant incidents during the Tigers’ Nidahas T20I tri-nation series game against host Sri Lanka Friday night. The BCB through a press release Saturday marked the events as unfortunate. Friday, the Bangladesh cricketers got involved in a brawl with their Sri Lankan counterparts in the last over of the game over a no-ball controversy. Bangladesh chasing 160 runs needed 12 off the final over and bouncers in the first two balls over lower-order batsman Mustafizur Rahman’s shoulder had sparked the altercation. For the on-field tussles Bangladesh T20I captain Shakib al Hasan and substitute fielder Nurul Hasan were fined 25% of their match fee by the International Cricket Council Saturday. “The BCB regrets the unfortunate happenings during Friday’s Nidahas Trophy match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The board accepts that conduct of the Bangladesh team in certain instances was unacceptable on a cricket field. We understand that the events may have transpired due to the importance of the match and the pressure that comes with it but feel that the expected level of professionalism was not exhibited by the team while dealing with a tense situation in the game. The Bangladesh team members have been reminded of their responsibility in upholding the spirit of cricket at all times,” said the BCB statement.

Following the game, reports of possible vandalism in the Bangladesh dressing room had emerged. Photos of a broken glass door was circulated on social media. The match officials however, did not find any cricketer guilty of the incident. The BCB in the statement emphasised on the strong bonding with Sri Lanka Cricket and hoped for better and stronger relationship in the coming days. “The BCB and SLC have a lasting bond which has a deep-rooted history of support and cooperation and the players of both sides continue to share an excellent relationship that gets stronger by the day,” said the BCB. “We look forward to a riveting end to the Nidahas Trophy which has been a brilliantly organised tournament. It has been very competitive and well received by cricket fans around the world and the SLC deserves every praise for that. The Bangladesh team is proud to be associated with this competition,” the BCB statement added. Bangladesh in the grand finale of the series will take on India at R Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo Sunday.
