Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal’s chance of appearing for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League T20 2018 final Sunday is minimal. The left-handed batsman complained of pain in the left ankle and left Lahore for Thailand after playing the first eliminator against Quetta Gladiators Tuesday.
Tamim missed the second eliminator for Zalmi against Karachi Kings Wednesday. Defending champion Zalmi won the second eliminator by 13 runs against the Kings to confirm a berth in the grand finale. Zalmi will take on Islamabad United in the season finale in Karachi.
Tamim informed Dhaka Tribune that he felt pain reappearing in his left ankle, the same place where he had undergone surgery under the supervision of Australia orthopedic surgeon Dr. David Young. The Bangladesh cricketer also felt pain during the Nidahas T20I tri-nation series final against India at R Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo Sunday and thus had not fielded in the game.
Tamim is scheduled to meet a doctor in Bangkok and undergo an MRI scan for further assessment of the injury. The Bangladesh cricketer is scheduled to return to Dhaka in a couple of days before consulting the BCB medical team for further treatment.
Tamim in the PSL 2018 played five matches for the Zalmi and scored 150 runs, including a highest score of an unbeaten 37. All-rounder Mahmudullah and right-handed batsman Sabbir Rahman are the two other Bangladeshis to participate in the PSL 2018. Mahmudullah played for Quetta after getting retained in the players’ draft while Sabbir was taken in by Zalmi as replacement for another Bangladeshi, Shakib al Hasan.
