Halsall signs off from Tigers assistant job
Bangladesh cricket team assistant coach Richard Halsall visited the BCB headquarters in Dhaka Monday to get released from his job. Though there are various reasons being discussed behind his sudden decision to leave the Tigers job, former Zimbabwe cricketer Halsall claimed everything is fine in the national dressing room and that he had to leave the job due to personal reason. Following head coach Chandika Hathurusingha’s resignation in November last year, Halsall and pace bowling coach Courtney Walsh took charge of the team. And according to reports, the senior cricketers had disagreements with Halsall regarding vital decisions and the manner in which the dressing room was being run. The players eventually ended complaining to the board and it is understood that the board got to know about incidents which went against Halsall. Ahead of Bangladesh’s tour of Sri Lanka for the Nidahas T20I tri-nation series 2018, the board named Walsh the interim head coach and had sent Halsall for a long leave. The leave however, was given as a way of putting Halsall away. Later in March, Halsall resigned from the job with immediate effect citing personal reason. “The senior cricketers always have their opinion and I have always tried to work for the best of the Bangladesh team. So I didn't find any issues with any of the senior cricketers,” said Halsall to the media at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

“(I am here) Just to say thank you. I just spoke to the CEO (BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury) and various other members of the board and said ‘Thank you’ for the time here. (I left the job) Purely because of family reason as I have got a young family and international cricket takes a lot of time away from your family. So it is just the right time to get back to them,” Halsall informed. The 49-year old Halsall had joined Bangladesh as the fielding coach in 2014 and two years later, moved up as Hathurusingha’s assistant. Halsall's last assignment with the Tigers was the ODI tri-series and the bilateral series against Sri Lanka at home in January and February this year. Halsall’s exit left BCB with another vacancy to fill, alongside that of the head coach. Bringing an end to his nearly four-year stay with Bangladesh cricket, Halsall expects the concerned authority to do the necessary things and get the best from the players. “Here is a good core of senior players but you won’t consistently win at international level only with their performance, you need to bring other players on. That would be advice, the ability to get those emerging players to establish is critical,” said Halsall, who is joining English county club Sussex as a coaching staff member.
