BCB on the lookout for academy talents
The BCB game development committee in an attempt to find talents from the cricket academies based in Dhaka has arranged a tournament, set to start from May 20. With the participation of 32 academies from Dhaka, the tournament titled BCB Academy Cup will search for the best possible talents and bring those young cricketers to the national circuit. The matches will be played on mats and in accordance with the knockout format. Cricketers aged from 15-18 years will participate in the 40-over tournament. The 16 winning teams from the first round will move to the second phase of the tournament where the eight quarter-finalists will be determined. The matches will be played at BKSP, City Club field in Mirpur and Dhaka University field. The champion of the tournament will receive Tk1 lakh while the runners-up side will be awarded Tk50,000. The player of the match in each game will be rewarded Tk3,000 while the best bowler and batsman of the competition will each pocket Tk10,000. The player of the tournament will get Tk15,000.

The BCB is targeting finding out as many talented cricketers possible from the first edition of the tournament. For this reason, no cricketer enlisted in BCB or CCDM (Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis) will be allowed to participate in the tournament. “This year the tournament is just a pilot project. We want to hold this tournament in a bigger way in the coming years. Our target from this tournament is to find out the talented cricketers and arrange training for them. The four semi-finalists will be brought under the BCB radar. They will be trained,” informed BCB game development committee chairman Khaled Mahmud in a press conference at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka yesterday. “The academies allow regular practice to the cricketers but they do not get to play enough matches. And you cannot find talents without getting them to play games. Selectors and members of the BCB game development committee will be in charge in finding out the prospects,” the former Bangladesh captain added. The participating academies were selected based on training facilities, academy ran by Level 1 or Level 2 coaches and duration of the academy in operation and professionalism.
