Mustafizur returns to action

Tigers paceman Mustafizur Rahman returned to action as visiting Sri Lanka A team trailed Bangladesh A side by 89 runs with seven wickets remaining in the first innings. At stumps on day one of the third and final four-day match of the series, the Lankans were in a comfortable position against host Bangladesh A at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Tuesday.

Batting first, Bangladesh A lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually dismissed for 167 runs in 62.3 overs. Left-arm spinners Prabath Jayasuriya and Malinda Pushpakumara and off-spinner Shehan Jayasuriya each removed three Bangladesh A batsmen to restrict the home side to a below-par first-innings total.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Zakir Hasan was the top-scorer for Bangladesh A with 42 while lower-order batter Sanjamul Islam chipped in with 41. Established batsmen in the shape of Soumya Sarkar (14), Mohammad Mithun (three) and Shadman Islam (nine), among others, all failed with the bat.

Later with the ball, Bangladesh A accounted for three Sri Lanka A wickets. Shehan remained unbeaten on 53 as Sri Lanka A posted 78 losing three wickets in 21.4 overs. Mustafizur picked up one wicket, along with Soumya and youngster Nayeem Hasan.

The national selection panel will be delighted to see left-arm pacer Mustafizur return to competitive action after recovering from toe injury. Due to the injury, Mustafizur missed the Afghanistan T20Is and the two-match Test series against the West Indies. Mustafizur however, was included for the West Indies ODIs.
