Bangladesh Test and T20I captain Shakib al Hasan is set to miss the upcoming season of the Caribbean Premier League T20.
The ace all-rounder has informed of his unavailability to his CPL franchise Barbados Tridents and was later replaced by former Australia captain Steve Smith for the tournament scheduled to start from August 8 this year.
"It is a huge blow to lose Shakib for the tournament but in Smith we have a truly world-class replacement who can help to bring power to our batting line-up. As a man who has played cricket at the highest level all over the world, we are very confident that Smith will be a big success with the Tridents,” said Tridents head coach Robin Singh in a media release Wednesday.
Shakib’s reasoning behind pulling out from the tournament was unknown when this report was filed.
Steve Smith will replace Shakib al Hasan at the Barbados Tridents in the upcoming CPL.

According to the BCB, the left-arm all-rounder had taken No Objection Certificate for the Indian Premier League T20 and CPL this year, meeting the BCB’s policy of appearing only in two foreign T20 leagues.
Meanwhile, Australia batsman Smith’s appearance in the CPL will be his second outing in a foreign T20 league since the start of his 12-month ban imposed by Cricket Australia for his involvement in the ‘Sandpaper Gate’ fiasco in South Africa.
World’s No 1 Test batsman Smith returned to professional cricket at the T20 Canada League for Toronto Nationals earlier this month.
