Bangladesh paceman Taskin Ahmed has lamented his recent run of injuries but vowed to return to full fitness within two weeks. A recurrence of back and hand injuries meant the 23-year old Taskin last played for Bangladesh in the Nidahas T20I tri-nation series in Sri Lanka in March this year.

He returned to competitive international action during the fourth and penultimate one-dayer against host Ireland A Wednesday only to suffer a hand injury again after bowling only five overs.

“I had a major back injury. And in a recent training session I suffered a hand injury and required seven stitches. And when my hand dried, the back injury returned during the tour of Ireland. After passing fitness test, I played the fourth one-dayer (against Ireland A), and bowled five overs. I suffered a hand injury again while throwing from third man,” said Taskin to the media at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Sunday.

“I required seven stitches back then but now I needed two. My hand got bruised. It was misfortune for me you can say. I suffered an injury in the same place twice. This is very unfortunate. I returned to the field after five-six months and I had to face a hand injury again. You can’t do anything about it really,” he added.

Taskin said the stitches on his hand will be removed within five to seven days and that he is targeting a return in two weeks’ time.

“There are many matches ahead, if I attain match fitness then I will wait for the opportunity. To be honest, I was in good rhythm. (BCB High Performance) bowling coach Champaka [Ramanayake] was satisfied with my bowling. I was content personally with my bowling. But since I have incurred the injury, there’s no use thinking over it. My stitches will be removed within five-seven days. And I will return within maximum two weeks,” the right-arm paceman added.

“Mainly I had a back injury. I have almost recovered from that injury you can say. I could bowl easily. But I had to acclimatise. I underwent rehab after the injection. I did not go to Ireland unfit. I was fully fit,” he concluded.
