Bangladesh A bounced back to win the third and final T20 and seal the series after losing the second and penultimate T20
Chief national selector Minhajul Abedin expressed happiness with the results of the Bangladesh A team’s tour of Ireland.
The visiting side finished the five-match one-day series 2-2 with the first game getting abandoned due to rain. Bangladesh A however, clinched the three-match T20 series 2-1.
Former Tigers captain Minhajul while speaking to the media at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka said the side’s performance, despite the harsh Irish conditions, showed that the Bangladesh A players can now be considered good enough alternatives for the senior side.
Bangladesh A bounced back to win the third and final T20 and seal the series after losing the second and penultimate T20.
“It is difficult conditions in Ireland. So considering that, I think Bangladesh A performed really well, and also considering the fact that the cricketing culture in Ireland has changed since they obtained Test status,” Minhajul said.

“We saw Ireland’s improvements in the one-day series as it finished 2-2. So it was a very competitive tour and our cricketers were able to gain experience there,” he added.
Minhajul opined that the series was a good platform for the cricketers to showcase their touch, including top-order batsman Soumya Sarkar and pacer Saifuddin, who have struggled for form in the national team for quite some time now.
Soumya, who was in fact the T20 captain of the touring side, seemed to have gotten over the lean patch to some extent with his batting performance (115 runs). In the one-day series, skipper Mominul Haque shined for the tourist with the bat, scoring 297 runs in four innings with a highest score of 182.
“Quite a few players caught our attention. Soumya played well in T20s, [Mohammad] Mithun played well, Afif [Hossain] was there. Al Amin caught the attention with his performance,’’ Minhajul informed.
“Overall we got the feedback, which we were looking forward to, and I hope we will be able to provide cricketers for the national team from here. All players in Bangladesh A have the opportunity to make it into the national team, but this will depend on what is needed by the senior side. Continuous programmes of Bangladesh A will help us to recover the lack of back-up players for the national team,” he said.
