The underperformance of Anamul Haque compelled the selectors to omit him from the side and bring back Liton Das as Tamim Iqbal’s opening partner
Bangladesh will make yet another change in their opening stand as Liton Das is set to open the innings with Tamim Iqbal in the Asia Cup.
Tamim, who has been occupying the opening slot since his debut back in 2006, has seen innumerable partners on the other side and opened with Anamul Haque in the ODIs of the recent West Indies Tour. But, the underperformance of Anamul compelled the selectors to omit him from the side and bring back Liton as Tamim’s opening partner.
Tamim and Liton last time opened the innings for the Tigers in the ODIs during the tour of South Africa last year and since then, the latter has been out of the squad.
Liton, who has opened six times with Tamim in his 12 ODI appearances, was eager to seize the opportunity and cement his place in the side with a good show in the forthcoming tournament.

“This is a good opportunity for me to be honest. It has been a long time I played an ODI for Bangladesh, so if given the chance (in Asia Cup) I aim to contribute in the best way possible,” said Liton to the media at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Wednesday.
“It will be a challenge to open with Tamim bhai and more so because the tournament is big itself. People will expect me to contribute for the team. I am practising hard for that and hope I will be able to deliver,” the wicketkeeper-batsman added.
Liton is highly rated for his talent and stroke making but he often failed to convert his good starts into big innings in the international arena. He is yet to score a half-century and his highest score is only 36 but the man who is known for his big innings in the domestic arena was working hard to rectify the problem.
“You need just one ball to get out. I have been working on how I can survive in the middle and also score runs at the same time. I have worked on the shots which will get me to score and avoid shots which get me dismissed,” said Liton.
