Interim West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite believes Bangladesh batsmen are quite dangerous in their home conditions and that the series will be tough for them, despite their impressive performances against Bangladesh in the past.

The Tigers played two Test matches away against the Windies earlier this year, and lost both convincingly.

Bangladesh were bowled out for just 43 runs in the first innings of the first Test of that tour back in July.

But Brathwaite informed that Bangladesh’s batting unit is more confident in their home conditions and the series will be a challenging one for the visiting side.

“I think it will be different. We won a number of games here before but I think it (Bangladesh) is a stronger unit, especially the spinners are doing a very good job for Bangladesh. It won’t be the same as before; it will probably be more challenging. We just have to keep backing our plans against spinners and pacers. We have to be disciplined when we bowl. Their batsmen are also dangerous here. We are up for it, but it won’t be easy,” Brathwaite said during the pre-match press conference at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium Wednesday.

The Windies are without their regular captain Jason Holder for the Bangladesh tour due to a shoulder injury.

Holder was one of the standout performers for the Windies recently but stand-in skipper Brathwaite thinks their young players are capable of performing well, despite losing their captain.

“Holder is obviously the key leader of this team. But I think we have capable guys here to replace him. I think we will do well on this tour. We expect to see some confidence and positive attitude. Young Shimron Hetmyer, Sunil Ambris and Shai Hope are raring to go.  We are really looking forward to the challenge,” Brathwaite concluded.

The first Test between host Bangladesh and the visiting West Indies will start at 9:30am local time Thursday in the port city.
