Bangladesh U-23 will play Hong Kong U-23 in their second group stage game Friday at the same venue
A poor batting display saw Bangladesh U-23 get off to a disappointing start in the ACC Emerging Teams Cup in Pakistan Thursday.
A batting debacle against an ICC Associate Member side UAE U-23 saw Bangladesh U-23 get all-out for 170 runs and concede a 98-run defeat at Southend Club Cricket Stadium in Karachi, on the opening day of the eight-nation tournament.
Bangladesh were put to chase 267.
Despite an experienced batting line-up featuring national cricketers in the shape of Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Mosaddek Hossain and captain Nurul Hasan, the side faced a top-order collapse and failed to resist the UAE U-23 attack.
The Bangladesh U-23 collapse was triggered with the dismissal of opener Zakir Hasan (three) with just 28 runs on the board, in the sixth over.
Next to follow was Shanto (eight) four overs later.

Yasir Ali added 20 to the chase but with Mosaddek and Nurul gone for a duck apiece, Bangladesh’s hope for a successful chase was put in jeopardy.
Tail-enders Shafiul Islam (32) and Shariful Islam (31 not out) added runs to the tally before Bangladesh U-23 were all out.
Earlier, UAE U-23 batted first.
They were boosted by opener Ashfaq Ahmed’s 98 as the side posted 257 before getting dismissed with two balls remaining in the innings.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Ghulam Sabbir added 52 to the board while opener Rohan Mustafa scored 40.
Left-arm pacer Shariful picked up four wickets for Bangladesh U-23 while another speedster, Khaled Ahmed, bagged three.
