Bangladesh U-23 team got their first points in the ACC Emerging Teams Cup 2018 after defeating Hong Kong U-23 by 28 runs at Southend Club Cricket Stadium in Karachi, Pakistan Friday.

Having won the toss, captain Nurul Hasan decided to bat first and that proved fruitful as Bangladesh posted 286/8 in their allotted 50 overs.

Mosaddek Hossain scored a quick-fire century off 86 balls that included eight boundaries and three sixes.

There were contributions from the other players as well as Zakir Hasan (49), Nazmul Hossain Shanto (36) and Yasir Ali (45) chipped in to take the total to a challenging one.

In reply, Hong Kong got off to a steady start and at one point looked in a good position to get a win when they were 177/2 in the 36th over.

From there, the Bangladesh spinners tied things down and Hong Kong eventually finished at 258/7 after their 50 overs.

For Bangladesh Khaled Ahmed took two wickets though he proved expensive, giving away 69 runs in his 10 overs.

The pick of the bowlers was teenage off-spinner Nayeem Hasan as he gave away just 40 runs in his 10 overs, and took the important wicket of Nizakat Khan, who was the top-scorer for Hong Kong with 92.

Mosaddek was also influential with the ball as he took 2/23 in his four overs.

Babar Hayat was the second highest scorer for Hong Kong with 91 runs.

After, a shocking loss against UAE U-23 in their first match, Bangladesh are now level on points with them with two points but are placed third in Group B due to a inferior run rate.

Pakistan U-23 are top of the group having won both games with four points.

Bangladesh next face them Sunday at the same venue in a must-win match.
