Although he was ill before the match, the captain was leading from the front with both bat and ball and was adjudged man-of-the-match.

Bangladesh captain Shakib al Hasan gave credit to his batting unit in putting up a challenging total  of 211 during the second T20I which was eventually enough to win the match.

Two big partnerships between Liton Das and Soumya Sarker and then Shakib himself with Mahmudullah helped register a solid total on the board.

“We had a good day on the field today. Maybe we made some mistakes in fielding, but overall we played a very good T20 match. It’s tough to bowl in the second half considering the dew factor in Mirpur this time. But still, the bowlers bowled well to defend the total. We scored some extra runs while batting and that gave our bowlers confidence. Liton started brilliantly then Soumya carried the momentum. And then the partnership between me and (Mahmudullah) Riyad bhai was crucial. If we lost more wickets at that time, then the total might not have been that big in the end. I think we scored 20-30 more runs while batting. And that gave us the edge. So, the batsmen mainly played the most important role for us today (Thursday),” Shakib admitted.

In the first T20I in Sylhet, the Bangladeshi batsmen were at fault for playing too many shots and giving their wickets away, which resulted in a below-par total that the Windies chased down without breaking a sweat.

"I think our batsmen took lessons from their mistakes in the previous match. Those balls which came at us at 140km/h, we tried to hit them at 180km/h. We only tried to use the pace (yesterday). I think our batsmen played sensibly. Our game plan was spot on. Our batsmen thought runs could be availed if we use the pace to our advantage, which Liton did (yesterday)."

This is the first time Shakib has take five wickets in T20I’s. Although he was ill before the match, the captain was leading from the front with both bat and ball and was adjudged man-of-the-match.

“I am happy that I have taken five wickets in T20I’s for the first time. I now have five-fors in all three formats. I always try to contribute for my team and in that sense I have contributed in my team’s win today so it feels really good,” the captain informed.

Bangladesh now have the chance to win the series just like the last the series against the Windies where they were trailing 1-0 and then eventually won 1-2 in Florida, earlier this year.

“We have played plenty of cricket in Mirpur. So I believe it’s an important factor as the third match will be played here and the crowd always gives tremendous support here. I believe we have a very good chance to repeat the performance and win the series 2-1,” Shakib concluded.
