Shinepukur Cricket Club's Shuvagata Hom scored a record breaking 58 run innings off just 18 balls against Mohammedan Sporting Club during their Dhaka Premier League T20 match at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla national cricket stadium on Tuesday.

During his innings Shuvagata reached 50-run mark in 16 balls which is the fastest fifty in Bangladesh T20 history. The previous record was held by Mominul Haque who scored fifty in 19 balls for Bangladesh A team against Bangladesh national team in 2013 at Mirpur’s SBNS.

Shuvagata came to the crease in the 16th over when the score was 109 for four after 15.2 overs for Shinepukur. After his quick-fire innings Shinepukur was able to post 192 runs on the board in their stipulated 20 overs.

Shuvagata’s innings was composed off four fours and six sixes. Shuvagata hit five sixes against Mohammedan pacer Qazi Onik while the other six came against all-rounder Alauddin Babu.

His score in 18 balls against Mohammedan was 0, 1, 4, 1, 2, 6, 4, 6, 6, 1, 6, 0, 4, 0, 6, 6, 4, 1.

Shuvagata also played a quick-fire innings of 32 off just 10 balls with three sixes against the Legends of Rupganj on Monday and was adjudged man-of-the-match for his match winning innings in Fatullah.

“I always try to score runs for my team. Yesterday the situation was we needed a boundary in almost every ball. I tried to hit and I was lucky that I scored 32 off 10 to win the match for my team. The ball came on to the bat nicely yesterday,” Shuvagata said after the match.

“Even today, we needed to score runs quickly in the end. We had four-five overs left. So I tried to score quickly and play big shots and eventually that happened,” he added.

The off-spinning all-rounder had a  decent BPL for Dhaka Dynamites where he scored 93 runs at a strikerate of 136. The right-hander informed he is trying to bat with more stability now to improve his batting.

“There is not that much to prove for me out there. Earlier maybe I was moving too much while batting. Now I am trying to bat with more balanced and become more stable,” Shuvagata concluded.

Shinepukur eventually won the match by 22 runs.
