Gazi Group overcome Shinepukur

All the three matches of the Dhaka Premier League were affected by downpour Monday as the results were decided by the Duckworth/Lewis method.

In Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Gazi Group Cricketers defeated Shinepukur Cricket Club by 21 runs.

Asked to bat first, Shinepukur scored 177 losing nine wickets in 48 overs.

Nos 3 and 9 both made 40, while captain Sohrawardi Shuvo scored 30. 

But no other batsman scored big and Shinepukur in the end set a moderate target for the opponent.

Off-spinner Sanjit Saha was the most successful bowler for Gazi Group as the youngster took four wickets conceding 25 runs in his quota of 10 overs.

In reply, Gazi Group’s start was shaky as they lost two wickets in the very first over.

Shinepukur pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who was playing his first match in the DPL this season, struck twice in the first over to gave Shinepukur a great start.

Mustafizur took the wicket of Waliul Karim (nought) in the second ball and Imrul Kayes (five) in the sixth ball of the first over.

But No 4 batsman Shamsur Rahman batted confidently and checked the early loss of wickets.

Later, Mustafizur claimed the third wicket in the first ball of the ninth over.

The score read 106 for the loss of four wickets in 21.4 overs when rain stopped play. 

Play could not resume due to heavy rain and in the end, Gazi Group were victorious by 21 runs.

Shamsur was unbeaten on 53 off 65 balls with nine boundaries.

Mustafizur bagged three wickets in 6.5 overs giving 23 runs.
