“We had Allah with us as well. I spoke to Adil Rashid, he said Allah was definitely with us,” said Morgan.

England captain Eoin Morgan believes his side got some divine help as Allah was with them in Mecca of cricket when they won the Cricket World Cup 2019 winning the most dramatic one-day match in the history of the game.

England and New Zealand ended their stipulated 50 overs with the same score that saw them playing the super over and even that ended on a tie resulting England became ultimate winner by the virtue of hitting more boundaries at Lord’s on Sunday

Morgan, who was born at Dublin and started his international career for Ireland, said his fellow Muslim player Adil Rashid told that Allah was with them.

“We had Allah with us as well. I spoke to Adil Rashid, he said Allah was definitely with us,” said Morgan.

“I said we had the rub of the green. That actually epitomizes our team. We’re from quite diverse backgrounds and cultures and guys grow up in different countries. To actually find humour in the situation we were in at times was pretty cool,” said the England captain.

Not only Morgan, England squad had few other players who were born in different parts of the world. Opener Jason Roy was born in Durban South Africa, Ben Stokes, the man of the final, was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, Jofra Archer, who bowled the super-over, was born in Jamaica. And apart from Adil, the squad also had another Muslim player in the likes of Moeen Ali.

England were knocked out from the group stage in the last World Cup in Australia after losing to Bangladesh and many thought that it was the nadir point in the history of the game for the country where it was born.

But, a bunch of players resurrected under the stewardship of the Irishman Morgan and they transformed the style of their ODI cricket that saw England becoming the most fearsome side playing fearless brand of cricket from being a follower of mundane, clumsy style of play.

England ascended through the ranks to become the number one side in the ODI and their batting broke all-sorts of record as they scored over 350 runs frequently in last four years.

However, that brave new cricket got its greatest accolade when Morgan lifted the silverware at Lord’s, gifting England their first ever World Cup title in ODI cricket.
