Dhaka Platoon not only continued their winning run, but also saw one of the national team’s out of contention batsmen and a young local paceman shine, as they beat Sylhet Thunder by 24 runs at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium Saturday.

Anamul Haque scored a brilliant 62 to help Dhaka reach 182/4, before their bowlers restricted Sylhet for 158/7.

Young Mahmudul Hasan was the most impressive among Dhaka’s bowlers.

This is the second win for Platoon after they lost their opening game, while Sylhet’s woes continued as the side has lost all three of their games so far.

After losing the toss, the Platoon opners made a blistering start before Tamim Iqbal, who made 74 a day earlier, got out for 31 leaving the side on 85/1 in 10th over.

Anamul, the more aggressive of the openers, got out for 62 off 42 when the score was 110, but the following batsmen all kept the scoreboard ticking with brisk innings to post a formidable total on the board.

Defending the total, Dhaka fielded an opening attack with the most experienced paceman in the country, captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza, and 20-year-old Mahmud, who bowled at 140kph regularly.

Sylhet and their coach, former South African master blaster Herschelle Gibbs, had wrested faith on powerful West Indian batsmen Andre Fletcher and Johnson Charles, but the former was caught behind off Mahmud while the latter was run out as the side, despite making a brisk start, were reduced to 49/3 in fifth over.

Mahmud got rid of next batsman Shafiqullah for just two and Mashrafe removed Mohammad Mithun for eight, leaving Sylhet reeling at 61/5.

Skipper Mosaddek Hossain gave a fighting rearguard action, but his rapid innings of 60 not out off just 44 balls could only reduce the margin of defeat.

Mahmud and Mashrafe grabbed two wickets each, while Anamul was adjudged man of the match.
