Newly appointed Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal is optimistic to hone on his leadership skill through the just started Dhaka Premier League. Left-handed opener Tamim has been named as captain of Prime Bank CC in the premier 50-over cricket tournament of the country and is set to start the season on Monday taking on title contenders Gazi Group Cricketers at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

Bangladesh Cricket Board earlier this month named Tamim as successor to the most successful ODI captain of the country till date, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza. Right-arm pacer Mashrafe has been unique with his leadership quality both on and off the field and has led the ODI team to 50 wins in 88 matches before he stepped down from the role on March 6.

Tamim is being expected to maintain the standard left by Mashrafe and leading Prime Bank CC in DPL is a good platform to enhance his captaincy skill.

“Prime Bank has appointed me as a captain. My intention will be that I can fulfill my role properly plus at the same this will personally give me some experience. I am looking forward to it,” said Tamim to the media at the sidelines of a practice session at BCB Academy at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday.

Facing former DPL champions Gazi Group Cricketers in the first game of the season, left-handed opener Tamim is eyeing a good start to the season with confidence driven from the strength of Prime Bank CC squad.

“A good start is important for any team in a tournament and we are to start the season playing against a title contender team. I believe a good start to our work on the field tomorrow [Monday] it will be a very good start to the season. Our team is very capable. We have a very strong side. It is just that we have to perform on the day and execute our plans,” said Tamim.

“Like I said yesterday, I have been trying to play for a team for a long time now that is Prime Bank. I have heard positive reviews of how professionally this team is operated. It is my second day with the team and it has been fine so far. I it will be a good season,” he added.
