Prime Bank Cricket Club defeated Gazi Group Cricketers by nine runs at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla national cricket stadium while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club managed a convincing 55-run win against Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity at BKSP 4, Savar
Shinepukur Cricket Club stunned Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited with a five-wicket win during their first match of Dhaka Premier League at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah on Monday.
On the other matches of the day, Prime Bank Cricket Club defeated Gazi Group Cricketers by nine runs at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla national cricket stadium while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club managed a convincing 55-run win against Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity at BKSP 4, Savar.
Mohammedan vs Shinepukur
Mohammedan formed a challenging squad ahead of this season DPL, but they started their season with an unexpected defeat. After winning the toss Mohammedan batted first to post 257/8 with Mahmudul Hasan scoring highest 58 runs while Irfan Shukur (46) and Abdul Mazid (42) made good contributions. But Mohammedan batsmen failed to score big in the slog overs and had to be contend with a below par score on a docile batting track.
In reply, Shinepukur started confidently as the opening pair Tanzid Hasan and Sabbir Hossain scored 53 in 13 overs. Tanzid scored and impressive 59 before getting out and number three Robiul Islam (54) and captain Towhid Hridoy, who came at number four, added 50 vital runs to keep the chase on.
In the late stage of chase, wicket-keeper batsman Mahidul Islam Ankon played a crucial knock scoring 49 off 47 deliveries to ensure victory for Shinepukur as they reached the shore with three balls to spare.
Prime Bank v Gazi Group
Tamim Iqbal’s Prime Bank Cricket Club held their nerve and defended 251 against Mahmudullah’s Gazi Group Cricketers at Mirpur.
Skipper Tamim was unimpressive with the bat as he scored 19 off 47 deliveries opening the batting. One-down batsman Rony Talukder played a crucial knock of 79 to keep the scoreboard ticking. Rony smashed seven boundaries and two sixes in his innings.
Prime at a stage were struggling on 155/6 in the 40th over but all-rounders Nahidul Islam and Nayeem Hasan formed a brilliant unbeaten 96-run partnership in the seventh wicket to post a challenging total for the side.
Nahidul scored 53 runs off 43 deliveries with three fours and three sixes while Nayeem scored 46 off 36 deliveries with six boundaries.
In reply, Gazi Group lost their first wicket early as Zakir Hasan was departed in the second over scoring five runs. Soumya Sarker scored 49 off 51 balls but Nahidul took the important wicket of Soumya in the 24th over by bowling him out.
In the same over off-spinner Nahidul, who was adjudged man of the match, bowled Yasir Ali for just one to put more pressure on the batting side. Mahmudullah got out for 32 as he was caught by Tamim off Alok Kapali when the score was 130/5 and experienced Kapali instigated the run-out of wicket-keeper batsman Akbar Ali (31 off 28) to swing the momentum of the match to bowling side.
All-rounder Mahedi Hasan made a brilliant effort with a 56-run innings off 49 deliveries but his effort was not enough for Gazi Group to clinch a victory as they finished their innings with 242 for nine. Mahedi scored six boundaries and three sixes in his impressive unbeaten knock.
Mustafizur Rahman, Nahidul and Kapali all took two wickets each and Nahidul was adjudged man of the match for his all-round effort.
Shekih Jamal vs Khelaghar
Sheikh Jamal scored 276 runs in their stipulated 50 overs riding on three half centuries from opener Saikat Ali (83), Nasir Hossain (56) and captain Nurul Hasan Sohan (58).
Mohammad Ashraful opened the innings for Jamal but managed to score 3 runs only from 14 deliveries.
Irfan Hossain was the best bowler for Khelaghar as he took four wickets conceding 43 while Khaled Ahmed and Masum Khan took two wickets each.
In reply, Khelaghar managed to score 221 runs losing nine wickets in their 50 overs. Skipper Jahurul Islam Omi was the top scorer with 51 runs.
Experienced Mashrafe bin Mortaza bowled seven overs for Jamal and remained wicket less conceding 34 runs.
Opener Saikat of Jamal was adjudged man of the match.
