Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal and wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim emphasized on the importance of continuity in Bangladesh Premier League T20 as far as icon or star cricketers are concerned.

The duo took to a social media Live session on Instagram on Saturday night, an initiative by Tamim. The left-handed batsman, known as a social media shy, has come to surprise many with the activity where he has planned to bring in different Bangladesh cricketers as guests.

Tamim and Mushfiqur apart from light hearted discussion on their friendship and dressing room secrets also discussed on BPL and the need of marquee local cricketers to be part of a franchise for few years at a stretch and not change the team every season.

“There is no doubt that the BPL T20 has been a huge platform for our [Bangladesh] cricket. But I truly feel that if we the players could play for a certain team for like two-three years or for a longer period then our bonding with the team and also with the fans of the region will get even stronger. Suppose everyone knows that Dhoni is for Chennai or Rohit is for Mumbai. It actually helps the fans as well to support their teams and remain loyal to their favourite players as well,” said Tamim during the live session.

“Normally in our BPL we change our teams every year which does not allow us to know the team management, players and also the fans couldn’t realize who is playing for which team this season. I think if the authorities at least give some instructions that players will be signed for at least three years to a particular team and only if the team and the player mutually agree to change the franchise then they can do it. It will help the players to be more dedicated towards the franchise and the fans will also have their own base,” said Tamim.

Mushfiq echoed similar sentiments and added his experience to the discussion.

“I am probably the only player [among the marquees] who has played in a different team every season [since the start]. It honestly becomes difficult to every year go to a new team, new management, and new set of players and get settled right away. If suppose I have played for a team for some years at a stretch I am sure it would have benefited me mentally, boost the fan base and build a culture,” said the diminutive batsman.

The entire world has been in lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic and alike to other countries all form of sports is suspended in Bangladesh too. Spending time at home the sportsmen are taking to social media, interacting with fans and fellow colleagues through Live sessions.

Opening batsman Tamim has been the first to start such Live sessions among the Bangladesh sports personalities as he was joined with Mushfiq. Tamim is scheduled to be joined by Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah for a Live session on Sunday at 10pm.
