Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal has been vocal in coming of support of the needy as the country fights against the coronavirus pandemic. Since the start of the pandemic in the country, left-handed opener Tamim took different initiatives to come in support of those stressed by the situation. Tamim as a part of his latest action now has stood beside 50 cricket coaches at his home town Chittagong.
Tamim’s elder brother, former Bangladesh batsman Nafees Iqbal along with Chittagong Cricket Coaches Association [CCCA] handed over the financial help to the 50 coaches on Sunday evening.
It has been learnt that Tamim was reached by some senior cricket coaches and was explained the crisis many coaches are dealing with, given sports activity in the country are suspended. And as it has happened with most of the cases, the southpaw took the prompt decision to come in aid of the coach of the port city. CCCA helped him in making the list of names.
“I and Tamim learnt about cricket from these coaches when we used to go to the field with our father [Late Iqbal Khan]. I will say it is the responsibility of all the students to stand besides their teachers in the time of need. A small meet was arranged in our restaurant [Khawaja Hotel] ensuring social distance and hygiene,” said Nafees to the media on Sunday.

“The senior coaches helped to shortlist the names of the coaches that require assistance. So that there is no hesitation amongst the coaches, the envelopes with the financial aid was passed on to where they have been seating during the meeting. We ensured that they do not feel odd walking to the front table and receive the assistance. Tamim had wanted to keep it within us but the coaches wanted to make this public so that others might get inspired and come to stretch the helping hand to the people in need,” former Bangladesh opener Nafees added.
Tamim, who was recently appointed as the national goodwill ambassador of World Food Programme (WFP), has made it a regular practice to come in help of those struggling due to the coronavirus pandemic. The left-hander extended his help towards families of 91 struggling athletes of the country and Nafisa Anjum Khan, who delivers daily essentials in a CNG-driven three-wheeler to people in need who contact her on the phone, amid the coronavirus pandemic that has left many people in the country struggling for food and other basic necessities.
Tamim has also helped out fellow athletes during their times of need. Tamim inspired Bangladesh national team players for providing monetary help to the family of cricketer Reazul Islam Kajol, who died after suffering a stroke last month at the age of 32. The experienced cricketer has also taken the responsibility of providing expenditure to the family members of the fastest teenage sprinter Samiul Islam during the coronavirus crisis. Tamim also encouraged the national cricketers to raise a fund to arrange pure water for the inhabitants of Shyamnagar Upazila in Satkhira who were affected during the cyclone Amphan last month.
