Chattogram juggernaut continues

As many as 14 runs were needed in the last over for Rajshahi in the last over

Gazi Group Chattogram registered fourth win in a row in Bangabandhu Cup T20 as they beat Minister Group Rajshahi by just one run in a high scoring nail-biting match at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National cricket stadium on Wednesday.

Chasing 177 runs to win, Rajshahi managed to score 175 runs losing seven wickets and were beaten by narrowest of margins. 

As many as 14 runs were needed in the last over for Rajshahi in the last over. Mustafizur Rahman came to bowl for Chattogram. First ball was a wicket for Mustafiz and then the next two balls were dot balls. In the fourth ball Rajshahi batsman Rony Talukder smashed a six and then scored a boundary in the next ball. Four runs were needed in the last ball to win but Rony only managed to take two runs when his shot was fielded from long on region .

Aminul Islam Emon was the top scorer for Rajshahi with 58 runs while Mustafiz took three wickets for Chattogram.  

Earlier, Chattogram posted a challenging total of 176, highest in the tournament so far, while bating first.

Chattogram openers Liton Kumar Das and Soumya Sarker yet again gave a good start for as they scored 62 runs in the opening stand.

Soumya made 34 off 25 deliveries during his entertaining knock with four fours and two sixes before got out in the eighth over.

Liton carried the innings at the other end and played an unbeaten innings of 78 runs from 53 deliveries. The right-hander struck nine boundaries and one six with some exquisite timing during his splendid innings.

Mossaddek Hossain’s 42 of just 28 balls helped Chattogram  post a challenging total that ultimately proved match winning.
