Mohammad Ashraful, the youngest ever Test centurion in debut is diagnosed covid-19 positive but the 36-year old batsman denied the result and believed it is a mere ‘false positive.’
Ashraful, the former Bangladesh captain underwent the regular test as he is supposed to play for Barishal Division against Rasjhahi Division in the second round match of the ongoing National Cricket League from Monday.
Among the Barishal players Ashraful was the only one who was found Covid-19 positive but he denied the result and gave another round of sample. If the new report, which is supposed to be known by Sunday morning, comes with negative, he can take part in the game.
Ashraful, who was banned for several years by ICC due to his connections with bookies, scored 48 and one in the first round match while opening for Barishal.
Apart from Ashraful, two current national team players- Dhaka Metropolitan opener Sadman Islam and Sylhet pacer Ebadat Hossain were also diagnosed with Covid-19 positive during the NCL matches.
Bangladesh has been observing rise of the numbers of corona patients over the last few weeks.
