Bangladesh one-day international captain Tamim Iqbal emerged as the first batsman to score 14,000 international runs for the country. Left-handed opener Tamim reached the milestone on Sunday at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium during the first match of the three-match ODI series against visitors Sri Lanka. With the feat Tamim also emerged into the list of 10 openers to have scored most international runs.
With 13,998 runs under the belt Tamim was only two runs short from the milestone ahead of the game. Bangladesh batting first, Tamim picked a boundary in the last ball of the first over, off pacer Isuru Udana, to reach yet another record as Bangladeshi batsman.

Tamim with the 52 runs scored against Sri Lanka in the first ODI took the tally of his international runs to 14,050 runs in 355 international innings. The Bangladesh captain has scored 4788 runs in 64 Tests, 7504 runs in 213 ODIs and 1758 runs in 78 T20Is.
With 14,011 runs Tamim sits at number 10 of the most runs scored by an opener. The list is led by Sri Lanka legend Sanath Jayasuriya with 19298 runs, West Indies opener Chris Gayle at number two with 18834 runs followed by former South Africa opener Graeme Smith with 16,950 runs.
