Bangladesh have played 100 T20I matches so far and only won 34 times and among these 34 wins, 11 have come against Zimbabwe

Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo believes there are too many criticisms of the Bangladesh cricket team regarding their performance in T20I cricket and he urges the media to write positive things about Tigers more often.

“It’s very frustrating continuously reading  the negative articles about Bangladesh cricket team and why you guys say it’s not a very good T20 team is beyond me. I think we have got wonderful players and I am sure there is room for improvement but I think we have got the ingredients to be a good T20 team,” said Domingo during a virtual press conference on Sunday ahead of the five-match T20I series against visiting Australia.

“I know we don’t have the physical attributes like the West Indies team `but we have got some skilled batsmen in our side. I am pleading to the media to become bit more positive about the team because there are always negative comments and that is draining sometimes.”

“I disagree with you totally and I don’t think we are bad T20 team at all and think we got some wonderful T20 players and if backed and supported and be more positive about them they can become a force to reckon with,” he added.

Bangladesh have played 100 T20I matches so far and only won 34 times.

Among these 34 wins, 11 have come against Zimbabwe. Bangladesh are currently sitting in the 10th position of the ICC T20I ranking and the Tigers have to play the qualifiers in Oman this year to qualify for the main stage of World T20 which will take place in UAE later this year.

Meanwhile, the head coach admitted there are a lot of areas to improve for Bangladesh in the shortest format of the game and Tigers are on course to become a good side in T20.

“We know we have to improve and that’s obvious but there is a process and we haven’t played many T20 matches over the last one year. The T20 series against New Zealand was disappointing but we played really well against Zimbabwe and we are confident that we can get some positives going into the series.”

“We know we are not the complete side yet and we still have a long way to go to be that but there are some really good signs and some of those young and less experienced players putting in some big performances.”

Australia are missing some key players in their batting line up in the likes of Aaron finch, David Warner, Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell and Domingo believes pressure will be on Australian players who got the opportunity to play

“Bangladesh don’t play Australia too often so this is a big series for us and we are really determined to do well in it. They will miss some key players they are trying to include in the world cup squad and that will put pressure on those players to perform. It’s a new challenge and we will make sure to take advantage of that,” Domingo concluded.
