Old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society and Brothers Union played out a goalless draw in their last group stage match in the Walton Federation Cup 2017 at Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.
With the draw, Brothers sealed their place in the quarter-finals as the group runners-up while Rahmatganj already confirmed their berth in the knockout stage before Wednesday's game.
Following the end of the Group D matches, Rahmatganj top the group with four points from two matches while Brothers have two points from two draws. Team BJMC crashed out of the tournament with one point.
Rahmatganj could have broken the deadlock in the 37th minute but Brothers goalkeeper Kamal Hossain Titu made a brilliant save to deny Rashedul Islam Shuvo’s powerful strike from the top of the box.
Meanwhile, former champion Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra will take on each other in their last group stage match at the same venue on Thursday at 6:45pm. Both the sides defeated Farashganj Sporting Club in their opening match to confirm their berth in the quarter-finals and Thursday's game will only decide who finish as Group B champion.
In the day’s other match, Chittagong Abahani will play Arambagh Krira Sangha in the last match of Group C. Anything less than a win will send last year's runners-up Arambagh out of the tournament while Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited will advance to the quarters, along with Chittagong Abahani. Both Chittagong Abahani and Mohammedan beat Arambagh in their first match.
