Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited missed the chance to catch Chittagong Abahani Limited at the top of the Bangladesh Premier League points table after they earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society in their 15th round match at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited, in the day's other game at the same venue, returned to winning ways after losing their previous three matches as they defeated bottom-placed Farashganj Sporting Club 2-0 to move to fifth place with 20 points.
Sheikh Jamal remained second with 34 points from 15 matches, only two behind the table-topper and one point ahead of third-placed Dhaka Abahani Limited while Rahmatganj moved to ninth place with 13 points. Farashganj remained at the bottom with only seven points.
It was Solomon King Kanform who rescued Sheikh Jamal from a shocking defeat as the Gambian forward's brilliant free-kick earned the Dhanmondi outfit the equaliser two minutes before the end of stipulated time.
The Old Dhaka outfit, earlier, took the lead in the 27th minute following a wrong pass from Yeasin Khan. Gambian forward Dawda Cessay broke into the penalty area before hitting the back of the net with a calm finish.
Meanwhile, a second-half brace from Haitian striker Augustin Walson inspired Mohammedan to a comfortable victory. The Black and Whites controlled the game and were denied by the crossbar twice in the either side of each half.
Walson put Mohammedan ahead with only a minute into the second half with an opportunist strike before doubling the lead in the 57th minute from a penalty.
