Bangladesh slip to worst ever 197th in Fifa ranking

Update : 22 Dec 2017, 12:23 PM
Bangladesh football team slumped to their worst ever position in the Fifa ranking as they were placed 197th out of 211 associate countries in the latest published world list Thursday. Bangladesh's previous worst ranking was 196 in September-October this year and they were 192nd last month. One of the reasons behind Bangladesh's gradual demotion in the ranking is their lack of international matches for more than a year. The BFF is likely to end the drought soon as the national team are likely to play a couple of international friendlies in late March next year.

The most probable opponents would be Cambodia away and Brunei Darussalam at home, which could pave the way for British-born Australian tactician Andrew Ord to make his debut as Bangladesh head coach. Ord, who was appointed coach in May this year, expects the Cambodia game to be a tough contest."I think Cambodia will be very difficult. They made it to the AFC qualifying stage so they played six real international matches. It's going to be a very difficult game," said Ord to the reporters Thursday. Meanwhile, Bangladesh's shocking defeat against Bhutan on October 10 in the AFC Cup qualifiers play-off last year was their last international game which left them with no fixture for the foreseeable future.
