Abahani at the summit after edging Muktijoddha

Update : 26 Dec 2017, 09:23 PM
Dhaka Abahani Limited rose to the top of the Bangladesh Premier League points table after pipping Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra 2-1 in their 19th round match at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Tuesday. Towhidul Alam gave the Muktis a shocking lead in the 17th minute before Emeka Darlington brought parity in the 67th minute, thanks to a fine assist from Emon Mahmud. It looked like Abahani would have to be content with a share of the spoils were it not for the effort of Sunday Chizoba, who netted the winner from the penalty spot in the first minute of injury time. Meanwhile in the other game of the day at the same venue, Chittagong Abahani Limited were held to a 1-1 draw by Brothers Union as the former lost ground on table-topper Abahani.Towhidul Alam Sabuj opened the scoring for Chittagong Abahani in the 28th minute after an assist from Mohammad Abdullah. And just like the Abahani game, there was a goal in the dying stages of the tie but this time around, fortune went against the Sky Blues from Chittagong as Siyo Zunapio bagged the equaliser. Abahani are now at the top of the standing with 45 points from 19 matches, two ahead of Chittagong Abahani, who are third after playing the same number of games as their namesake. Brothers are eighth with 16 points from 19 matches while Muktijoddha are third from bottom with 14 points from as many outings as the former.RESULTSAbahani 2 (Emeka 67, Sunday 90+1 - P) 1 Muktijoddha (Towhid 17)Ctg Abahani 1 (Sabuj 28) 1 Brothers (Zunapio 90+1)  WEDNESDAY'S MATCHESSk Jamal v Saif Sporting, 4:30pmArambagh v Farashganj, 6:45pmBoth the games will be held at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka
