Bangladesh were off to a blistering start in the Saff U-15 Women's Championship as they thrashed Pakistan 14-0 at Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan Thursday. In the process, Bangladesh took one step closer to the semi-final. The girls in red and green will take on Nepal in their last group stage game Monday at the same venue.
Bangladesh went 6-0 ahead in the first half after a dominating display. The hapless Pakistan girls were unable to script a single attack in the opening half in the face of some determined defending by Bangladesh. Bangladesh added eight more goals in the second half to complete the rout. In total, Bangladesh scripted together as many as 37 attacks throughout the game, and got 12 corners.
Shamsunnahar bagged five goals in the 31st, 50th, 54th, 57th and 90th minute. Tahura Khatun (fifth and 19th minute), Sajeda Khatun (48th and 58th minute) and Anai Mogini (60th and 88th minute) grabbed a brace apiece. Monika Chakma, Maria Manda and Akhi Khatun scored one each, in the 17th, 39th and 40th minute respectively.
Golam Rabbani Choton’s charges enjoyed their best spell in the game in the second half when they netted six times in only 12 minutes.
In the opening match of the tournament at the same venue Thursday, India blanked Sri Lanka 12-0. A total of six teams are taking part in the tournament – host Bhutan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Group B comprises Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal while India, Sri Lanka and Bhutan make up Group A.
The group stage matches will be held till Monday, following which the semi-finals will take place Thursday. The final and third-place decider will be held next Saturday.
