The Bangladesh U-16 girls became the group champion after beating Vietnam 2-0 goals in Dhaka on September 23 this year
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Thursday put emphasis on the continuation of the ongoing progress in the field of country’s sports to brighten Bangladesh’s image in the international arena.
“The sports and games help project the country in the international arena,” she said while addressing a reception accorded to the players of Bangladesh U-16 women’s football team for becoming the Group F champion in the 2019 AFC U-16 Championship Qualifiers.
Each of the 23 members of the squad received Tk10 lakhs as cash reward from the Premier while 10 coaching staff members each got Tk5 lakhs.
The reception was held at the Prime Minister’s official residence Ganobhaban in the city. The Bangladesh U-16 girls became the group champion after beating Vietnam 2-0 goals in Dhaka on September 23 this year.
The Prime Minister assured of providing all possible support and cooperation to further flourish the country’s sports sector.
Stressing the importance of engaging children in sports and cultural activities alongside their academic studies, she said the extracurricular activities help them be disciplined. “Besides, such activities play a significant role in ensuring their physical and mental growth,” she said.
