Saif, BJMC kick off Independence Cup

This will be the second edition of the tournament this year after Arambagh Krira Sangha won the first earlier in 2018

Big-budget Saif Sporting Club will lock horns with underdog Team BJMC as the Independence Cup gets underway Saturday at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka at 5:00pm. Channel 9 will telecast it live.

Alongside Saif Sporting and BJMC, Arambagh Krira Sangha are also in Group A.

Group B contains Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited, Chittagong Abahani Limited, Nofel Sporting Club and Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society.

Group C comprises Abahani Limited, Brothers Union and Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra.

Group D features Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra and Bashundhara Kings.

The group stage matches will come to an end next Sunday. The quarter-finals will be held on December 11, 12, 13 and 14. The semi-finals will take place on December 19 and 20. The final will be held on December 24.


All the matches will take place at BNS. The afternoon game will start at 3pm and the evening match will begin at 5pm.

This will be the second edition of the tournament this year after Arambagh won the first earlier in 2018.

The tournament logo was unveiled Friday at BFF House in the capital city. BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag was present among others during the logo-unveiling programme. Walton Group will sponsor the competition.

A total of 13 teams will take part in the competition, this season’s second professional event after the Federation Cup.

Walton Group will sponsor the competition, powered by Premier Bank, while Pragati Insurance Limited is the co-sponsor.
