Abahani leave Dhaka without Sunday

Abahani are scheduled to play against Indian side Minerava Punjab on Wednesday

Update : 23 Jun 2019, 06:32 PM

Abahani Limited are in the verge of creating history in the AFC Cup but the champion side of Bangladesh got a big setback as they left to India without their key marksman Sunday Chizoba due to some complication of visa process.

Abahani flew to Guwahati, India on Sunday morning ahead of their last group stage match that is scheduled to take place against Indian side Minerava Punjab on Wednesday.

The Dhanmondi-based side is currently leading the Group E with 10 points, two more than Indian outfit Chennaiyan, and a win at Guwahati will help them secure a spot in the next round as the first Bangladeshi club in the history of AFC Cup.

But Abahani’s manager Satyajit Das Rupu informed that the Nigerian striker Sunday, who was adjudged the best player of the game during 5-0 win over Nepal champions Manang Marshyangdi Club last week, denied the Indian visa despite the attempts made by the club

“It’s sad that we couldn’t avail visa for Sunday ahead of our important match against Minerva Punjab. We played AFC Cup matches without injured Topu (Barman) and Fahad (Atiqur Rahman), now we have to play without Sunday and feel like he is out injured or something like that.” said Rupu over phone after arriving in Guwahati.
