Palestine have not conceded a goal in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup since the beginning of the last edition, a run of clean sheets stretching seven games

A free scoring Burundi team are set to face the competition’s only unscratched defence when they take on holder Palestine in the final of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka at 4pm Saturday.

Palestine have not conceded a goal in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup since the beginning of the last edition, a run of clean sheets stretching seven games.

Meanwhile, Burundi have scored 10 goals in only three matches.

One more goal would see Burundi match the South Korea U-20 team that scored 11 goals during the Bangabandhu Cup 1999.

However, Burundian coach Joslin Bipfubusa admitted it would be more difficult to score against the highest-ranked side in the tournament.

“It doesn’t matter how many goals we scored before, because the final opponent are very different to those we have played so far. The game plan will not be same,” Bipfubusa said, adding that Burundi have never won an international trophy.

Palestine coach Makram Dabour said he expects the final to go differently to the semi-final against Seychelles.

“Seychelles looked defensive, but Burundi have another system. They have a strong attacking line-up. However, we have kept clean-sheets in three matches and we are confident we can keep another and take the title back home,” Makram said at the pre-match conference.

The Bangabandhu Gold Cup trophy Dhaka Tribune/Md Manik Burundian striker Nshimirimana Joslin has netted seven goals in the tournament, so far, including two hat-tricks.

If the 18-year-old scores another, he will become the highest scorer in a single edition ahead of South Korean forward Cho Jae-Jin.

Joslin has already caught the attention of a number of different clubs within a week of his senior team debut.

Team manager Mutima Constatin, also an agent, said clubs from Belgium, France, Turkey and Morocco have shown interest in the youngster, who trained at Black Eagles Academy.
