The country's leading golfer Siddikur Rahman is hopeful that someone among host Bangladesh would win the title of the AB Bank Bangladesh Open 2018, which is all set to tee off at the course of Kurmitola Golf Club in Dhaka Wednesday. Siddikur talked to reporters during a press conference Monday evening at KGC in the capital city, prior to the trophy-unveiling ceremony of the tournament's fourth edition.
"We have had very good preparation in the last 10-15 days," said the two-time Asian Tour winner before adding, "There are around 20 golfers among which anyone can become champion. It would be very competitive. I hope someone among us would keep the trophy at home this time around."
As the host country, around 41 emerging professionals and six amateurs would get the chance to take part in the country's most prestigious golf tournament, along with 97 top golfers from 25 countries, informed Bangladesh Golf Federation's secretary general Brigadier General Kazi Shamsul Islam.
"Our target from this tournament is to reach a higher level in terms of performance. We now have only one icon in Siddikur but we want more stars." said Brig. Gen. Shamsul Monday. Tournament committee chairman Abidur Reza Khan expressed hope that at least three Bangladesh players would finish in the top 10.
The 33-year old Siddikur added, "I finished second last time here. If I play my natural game and keep up the consistency it would not be difficult for me to win the title. I'm really excited and looking forward to it."
The trophy of the tournament was unveiled by Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan, who was present as the chief guest of the event. BGF senior vice president Major General AKM Abdullahil Baquee and managing director of AB Bank Limited Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury were also present among others on the occasion.
The $300,000 tournament has been sponsored by AB Bank with assistance from AT.
The logo of the tournament was unveiled last month. Major Gen. Chairman of the Bangladesh Open organising committee AKM Abdullahil Baquee was the chief guest during the logo-unveiling ceremony.
