Bangladesh continued their fine form in the qualifying round of the Asian Games Hockey after coming from behind to hand Hong Kong a crushing 5-1 defeat to secure their second consecutive victory in Pool A in Oman's capital Muscat Sunday.
After outplaying Thailand 5-0 in their opening encounter Friday, the men in red and green are on course to retain top spot in the qualifiers. Bangladesh had defeated Hong Kong 4-2 in their opening match of the Men's Asian Hockey Federation Cup in November, 2016.
The second victory came through an improved performance in the final two quarters where young penalty-corner specialist Ashraful Rana netted two goals to put Bangladesh in the driving seat after conceding the opening goal in the first quarter.
Ashraful netted his first from a penalty stroke to equalise in the 33rd minute before taking the lead from a penalty corner two minutes later. Captain Russel Mahmud Jimmy and Milon Hossain scored one each in the last two minutes of the game to seal six points from two matches.
Milon was also one of five scorers against Thailand along with drag-and-flick specialist Mamunur Rahman Chayan, Hasan Jubair Niloy, youngster Romman Sarkar and Sarwar Hossain.
