A nine-member Bangladesh hockey team will be leaving here for Thailand Tuesday, ahead of the Youth Olympic Games’ qualification tournament, scheduled to be held in Bangkok from April 25-29.
The team will be led by recently appointed national team's Malaysian head coach Iman Gobinathan Krishnamurthy and captained by Abahani Limited's young defender Sohanur Rahman Sabuj. The tournament will be held in accordance with the five-a-side format.
All the nine players are students of BKSP, among which six are participating at the Club Cup Tournament. Sabuj, Mohsin and Mehedi are playing for Abahani, Shishir and Shaon are representing Mariner Youngs Club while Rakib is playing for Victoria Sporting Club. The players are also preparing for their HSC exams simultaneously.
The photo session of the team along with the jersey unveiling ceremony was held in Dhaka Wednesday where Bangladesh Hockey Federation general secretary Abdus Sadeq said, "The journey is not easy. We have to face tough teams. Gobinathan seems to be confident of qualifying."
