
Bangladesh reached the final of the Bangabandhu International Volleyball Tournament after outplaying Maldives 3-0 in the last match of the group stages at National Volleyball Stadium on Monday.
The hosts will face Kyrgyzstan in the title-decider at the same venue on Tuesday at 3pm while Nepal and Maldives will take on each other in the third-place decider on the same day.
Bangladesh collected 10 points from four matches in the group stage, winning three matches and drawing one. They lost to finalists Kyrgyzstan in their previous match in a nail-biting encounter. Kyrgyzstan made it to the final having won all their four matches and earning 11 points.
Maldives fought hard in the first set that Bangladesh narrowly won by 30-28 points. After 22 points, the scoreline was 23-23, 24-24, 25-25, 26-26, 27-27 and finally, 28-28.
The second set was also close as the hosts won it 28-26. Bangladesh’s Harsit Biswas was adjudged player of the match.
In the last group stage match on the same day, Kyrgyzstan earned a comfortable 3-1 win over Nepal to secure top place in the group. This was their fourth consecutive victory.
