Amzad misses semi berth at Commonwealth Games

Mohammad Ali Amzad went agonisingly close to reaching the semi-finals for the first time in the Commonwealth Games' wrestling discipline before conceding a defeat in the last eight of the freestyle 74kg event in Gold Coast, Australia Thursday. The 28-year-old Bangladesh wrestler lost the game by “Fall” against Ebimienfaghe Assizecourt of Nigeria in the 1/4 finals held at Carrara Sports Arena.

Overall, Amzad was placed eighth out of 15 participants in the final round. Earlier in the day, he defeated Ioabo Teetu of Kiribati to reach the last eight. Meanwhile, Bangladesh shooters Suraiya Akter and Sarmin Shilpa finished 14th and 17th respectively in the 50m rifle-prone finals. Suraiya scored 604.3 points while Sarmin totaled 599.2.
