Bangladesh will begin their ABFIP Presidential Cup Baseball Tournament campaign Tuesday against Nepal in Guwahati, Assam.
The eight-nation tournament has been organised by Amateur Baseball Federation of India.
The eight teams – host India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Iran, Iraq, Bhutan and Bangladesh – have been divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
The 28-member Bangladesh contingent, comprising 19 players and nine officials, left for Assam Friday. It should be mentioned that ever since the game of baseball was introduced in Bangladesh in 2006, the country has not taken part in any international tournament.
On the eve of their game, Bangladesh coach Talha Jubair said, “We were supposed to play India in our opening match [Monday]. The fixture though has been changed. We will face India Thursday. Everyone is fit and raring to go. They are practising hard. They are all ready.”
