2nd ISSF International Archery: Bangladesh target nine golds Wednesday
Bangladesh will take part in as many as nine gold-medal deciders Wednesday in the 2nd ISSF International Archery Championship at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in Dhaka. Bangladesh’s Mohammad Ruman Shana will lead the way in the recurve individual event after beating Estonia’s Mart Oona 6-2 in the semi-final Tuesday at the same venue. He will face Abdalelah Binali. Oona later beat Bangladesh’s Tamimul Islam 6-4 in the bronze deciding match. In the same event, Nasrin Akter of Bangladesh lost to Turkey’s Begtunhan 6-2 in the last four. Nasrin later lost to Tajikistan’s Tagaeva Zukhro 7-1 in the bronze deciding game. Unsal will face Estonia’s Rina Parnat in the gold-decider. In the compound individual category, Bangladesh’s Ashim Kumar Das beat teammate Milon Mollah 141-138 to reach the grand finale. He will take on teammate Abul Kashem in the gold-decider. Kashem had beaten Iraq’s Waleed Hameed 140-133 in the semi-final. Hameed later defeated Milon 136-132 in the bronze-decider.

In the same event, Bangladesh’s Roksana Akter beat teammate Bonna Akter 143-138 in the semi-final. Roksana set up a gold clash with reigning champion Fatimah Almashadani of Iraq. Fatimah had beaten Emily Hoim of Estonia in the other semi-final. In the bronze decider, Bonna beat Hoim 139-137. In the recurve men’s team event, the home side comprising Tamimul, Ibrahim Sheikh and Ruman set up a gold-decider with Nepal, who beat Saudi Arabia 5-4 in the last four. Bangladesh advanced to the final after beating Iraq 5-1 in the semi-final. In the recurve women’s team category, the host nation comprising Nasrin, Beauty Ray and Radia Akter Shapla will face Azerbaijan in the gold-decider. In the recurve mixed team event, Bangladesh’s Ruman and Nasrin beat Kyrgyzstan 6-2 in the semi to set up a gold clash with Turkey.

In the compound category, Bangladesh team containing Ashikuzzaman Anoy, Ashim and Kashem reached the final directly where they will face Iraq. Iraq defeated Nepal in the last four. In the compound team category, Bangladesh’s Roksana, Bonna and Ritu Akter will take on Morocco in the gold-decider after the latter defeated Nepal in the last four. The home side qualified directly for the final. In the compound mixed team event, Bangladesh side comprising Roksana and Ashim progressed directly to the final where they will play Iraq. Iraq had beaten Nepal in the last four.
