2nd ISSF International Archery: Bangladesh dominate second day
Host Bangladesh dominated the second day of the 2nd ISSF International Archery Championship as eight local archers reached the semi-finals of their respective individual events following promising displays in the elimination round at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in Dhaka Monday. Mohammad Ruman Shana continued his brilliant run as he defeated Alblooshi Saud of the UAE 6-0 before beating Saudi Arabian archer Alwi Mansour Fahd by the same margin in the last-eight to reach the semi in the recurve men’s singles where Tamimul Islam had to toil hard to beat Alotaibi Fares Mater of Saudi Arabia 6-5 (10-8) to reach the last four. Ruman will face Estonian Oona Mart in the semi-final while Tamimul will play against Binali Abdaleh, who beat Ibrahim Sheikh Rezowan in the last eight.

Only Nasrin Akter will carry Bangladesh's flag in the recurve women’s singles semi-finals as she outplayed Zubaydova Firuza of Tajikistan 6-0 to set up a last-four tie with Turkish archer Unsal Begunhan. Tagaeva Zukhro of Tajikistan and Parnat Reena of Estonia are the other two semi-finalists in the same event. The home side displayed sheer dominance in the compound men's singles where Ashim Kumar Das, Mohammad Milon Molla and Abul Kashem Mamun all reached the last four, along with Shkhan Waleed Hameed of Iraq. Ashim defeated Bhattachan Ramesh of Nepal 139-132, Milon beat Alrodhan Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia 139-137, Mamun defeated Al Daghman Eshaaq of Iraq 140-136 and Hameed beat Bangladesh’s Mohammad Ashikuzzaman. Ashim will face Milon while Kashem will take on Hameed in the last four.

Roksana Akter and Bonna Akter will play each other in the compound women's singles semi-final after beating Moroccan archer El Faiz Souad 139-115 and Ritu Akter 132-130 respectively in the last eight. Almashhadani Fatimah of Iraq, who beat Suma Biswas of Bangladesh, and Hoim Emily of Estonia will lock horn with each other in the other semi-final. Earlier in the day's qualification round, Ashim secured top spot in the compound men's singles after 72 arrows scoring 690 points out of 720 while Mamun and Ashikuzzaman were ranked second and third respectively with 680 and 679 respectively. Turkish archer Begunhan ranked first in the recurve women's qualification round with a total of 613 points where Nasrin was placed fifth with 594 points. Bangladesh compound mixed team comprising Roksana and Ashim already ensured their place in the final while compound men's side and recurve women’s team will also play in the gold-deciding game. The semi-finals and bronze-deciding matches of all four individual events will be held today, along with the bronze-deciding games of the team and mixed events.
